Here and Now
I completed my studies in BA (Hons) Fashion at Kingston University in 2011. As a Fashion Graduate with experience in Public Relations, working on both live company briefs and creative solo projects, I can confidently say that I enjoy being self-sufficient as well as relishing in the opportunity to collaborate with new people and exchange ideas. I am always looking for new opportunities that will allow me to combine my creativity and communication skills in my career.
My Degree and More
Alongside my studies I have had the pleasure of working as an Intern for both up-and-coming British designer, and former Kingston fashion student, Sophie Hulme, as well as internationally successful print specialists label Belle Sauvage. Another highlight of my course was setting up a fashion website in conjunction with fellow students Loz Winney, Lucy Haugh and Nadia Kott. Initially the project was born off the back of a fashion reportage brief during our second year, but it soon developed into something much bigger, featuring extensive reportage from London Fashion Week as well as cultural coverage and observations of London life.
I first realized that Fashion was what I was destined for at the age of about ten when I grew tired of what my Barbie dolls were wearing so began to design my own outfits for them instead. Initially using handkerchiefs and scraps of material from old clothes to wrap and drape around the dolls, similarly to a mannequin, I eventually ended up spending my pocket money on fabric remnants from my local shop, taking immense pleasure in being able to choose what I would use to create my latest design. As well as this I also enjoyed taking photographs to document the end results often grouping looks together to create mini collections. Although at the time this was just a hobby or playtime activity for me, it seems that it has been a major influence in my life, my passion continuing and leading me to select my degree course and intended career path.
Born in Bristol on the 9th November 1988, my family later moved to the quiet market town of Monmouth on the South Wales border, where I did most of my growing up. Studying at Monmouth Comprehensive School and Sixth Form, I later moved to Cardiff to complete an Art Foundation at University of Wales Institute Cardiff achieving a Distinction. I moved to London to study BA (Hons) Fashion at Kingston University and graduated with Upper Second Class Honours.
The Fashion Industry requires hard work and complete dedication so there isn’t always as much time as I would like for my hobbies but when I can grab a moment, I do like to play my guitar. I taught myself to play a few years ago now after being influenced by my parents who both used to play. I also enjoy writing my own material. As well as this I love every aspect of all things car related and there is nothing that I find more relaxing than going for a long drive. I have been lucky enough to put a couple of supercars through their paces around a track, which was utterly thrilling. Their design, the way they feel to drive, the sound of the engine, it’s all part of the experience.
